Ag Bio Challenge

What is Ag Bio Challenge?

Ag Bio Challenge is a signature winter term event put on by the ASA that brings together teams of four to five Ag Bio students to tackle real-world problems facing the agricultural sector. Each group is presented with the same broad, current question, one that reflects challenges producers, industry, and communities are navigating today. Teams must work collaboratively to brainstorm, design, and deliver a presentation that not only identifies the problem but also proposes creative and practical solutions.

Ag Bio Challenge is more than just a competition; it is an opportunity to showcase the knowledge gained in the program, apply it to pressing real-world issues, and strengthen lifelong skills. With meals provided, monetary prizes for the winning teams, and a welcoming yet challenging environment, the event celebrates the spirit of problem-solving, collaboration, and community within agriculture. For many students, it becomes a highlight of their academic experience, offering not just the chance to compete but the chance to connect, grow, and leave a lasting impression on peers and industry alike.

Show Off Your Teamwork Skills

The competition is intentionally fast-paced, taking place within a single day. Students start from scratch in the morning, build their ideas through critical discussion and teamwork, and then present their solutions later that day. This format encourages participants to think quickly, adapt to new perspectives, and practice problem-solving under pressure—skills that are highly valuable in both academic and professional settings.

Networking & Connections

Beyond sharpening critical thinking and communication, Ag Bio Challenge emphasizes networking and professional connections. Students have the opportunity to present their ideas to a panel of judges drawn from a wide range of agricultural backgrounds. This exposure allows students to connect with potential employers, mentors, and collaborators, while also gaining insight into how different parts of the sector view and approach shared challenges.

Build Friendships

The event also fosters peer networking within the college. Working in teams pushes students to rely on each other’s strengths and perspectives, helping them build friendships and professional connections that extend well beyond the classroom. These relationships often evolve into long-term collaborations, reinforcing the value of teamwork in agriculture’s interconnected world.
